Today is our last day at the ranch. The plan is breakfast, relax, lunch, and an afternoon of fishing.
There was another trail ride today so we watched them load up. They were going up the mountain to have a champagne brunch. They had a frying pan that was the biggest thing I've ever seen. It had to be at least 30" in diameter.
The fishing was quite exciting. I
experienced fly fishing for the first time and actually caught a few.
I know I look goofy but I didn't get sunburned!!!
How many fish can one guy catch anyway?
However, nothing compared to the whopper Kim caught. It was 35” long and put up quite a fight. One of the other guides told us he thought it was the biggest fish in the river. He had hooked it a couple of times but never landed it, so Kim was getting all the high-fives.
Yep, we both caught one at the same time. Kept the guide busy.
We cleaned up from fishing and headed out to find some
dinner; ended up driving about 35 miles to Fairplay. There wasn’t much to
choose from and just as we were headed out of town we noticed a place serving
breakfast, lunch, & dinner that had lots of vehicles around it. We figured
it must be good with that many people. Turns out it was a bowling alley and it
was league night (hence all the vehicles).
Come to find out they were known for
Dorothy’s tamales and had been featured on Food Network’s The Best Thing I Ever Ate. Duff, from Ace of Cakes, said Dorothy’s tamales were absolutely the best thing
he ever ate. Dorothy is 73 now and sometimes makes over a thousand tamales a
day. When they run out, they’re out. Kim had the pork, green (hot) and he
thought they were awesome. I tasted a bite of the sauce and it set my mouth on
fire.
We ate and watched the bowling, which was a hoot. It was redneck city,
mullets and all :),
and a perfect way to end our trip.
If only I could listen to and see this everyday...
